Oct. 11--Christian Siriano loves this look: an amazing $10,000 gown (preferably one of his designs) worn with a pair of $40 shoes (preferably one of his designs for, yes, Payless).
Siriano, 23, Season 4 winner of Season 4 on "Project Runway," has made quick work of being successful as a designer beyond TV.
Last month, he showed his third collection (spring 2010) at New York Fashion Week. He's also doing an accessories collection, including trendy shoes and handbags, for Payless.
And Siriano's book, "Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self" (Grand Central Publishing, $23.99, 256 pages), hit shelves this week.
He brings his "fierceness" to the Bay Area for two book signings on Tuesday: 2 p.m. at Saks Fifth Avenue, 384 Post St., San Francisco, and 7 p.m. at Book Passage, 51 Tamal Vista Blvd., Corte Madera.
The Bee caught up with Siriano to chat about his fashion adventures.
What was the inspiration for your new spring collection?
I was intrigued by this idea of a woman who is a world traveler. I based the prints on pictures of the Amalfi Coast in Italy. I started with a wave motif and used the colors of the Mediterranean Sea.
What are your hopes for the book, and how do you feel about Tim Gunn calling you "America's next great fashion designer"?
I didn't want the book to be a specific guide but more about how to feel differently about everyday life. Tim has always been supportive of me. At the events next week I want to chat and meet and greet. Folks at Saks can also see my clothes, too.
Victoria Beckham was a big fan on the show. Is she still?
I probably gave her five pieces from that winning collection. I did a fitting at her home in L.A. She's very sweet!
