Wal-Mart guard kidnapped, robbed and seriously injured [The Charlotte Observer, N.C.] [09/10/2009 ]

Sep. 9--Police in Durham have found the pick-up truck that was stolen from a 76-year-old security guard who was robbed, abducted and severely beaten Tuesday morning in west Charlotte.

No additional details were released about the discovery of the truck, which was abandoned, according to police. Authorities are checking the truck for possible clues.

The guard, Alvaro Dario Galeano-Echavarria, was found by a resident in the 3900 block of Hargrove Avenue, about six blocks from the Wilkinson Boulevard Wal-Mart store where the guard worked. Galeano-Echavarria works for Security Forces Inc.

Police believe the thieves robbed the guard and stole his company-issued truck before dumping him on the side of the road.

The guard's daughter, Adriana Galeano, said he has only worked at the Wal-Mart for a few months. She said he also worked a second job as a Spanish-English translator to provide for his family.

"He is a father and a husband and he is a very hardworking person," Galeano said.

Her father has lived in Charlotte for 16 years, Galeano said. She said her family was at his side in the hospital, but doctors haven't said whether he'll recover.

"They don't know yet, until they do more tests," she said.

Security Forces spokesman Bob Watson said this is the first time in the company's history that they've had an incident this serious. The firm provides security for industrial and commercial sites throughout the Southeast.

"We're very concerned about him, and we'll do anything we can," said Watson, who added that a manager from the company was with the family.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
