Entertainment In Brief: 09/04/2009: Benzie Players present 'QED' [The Record-Eagle, Traverse City, Mich.] [09/07/2009 ]

Sep. 4--BENZONIA -- The Benzie County Players will give a special presentation of Peter Parnell's "QED" tonight and Saturday.

The play, a biographical look at Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman, focuses primarily on his relationship with life. Steve Elrick portrays Feynman and Alison Crocker plays a student he encounters.

The play will be staged at 8 p.m. at Mills Community House, 891 U.S. 31.

Tickets are $10 at the door.

Music on tap at Serenity Tea Bar

TRAVERSE CITY -- Multi-instrumentalist folk musician Christopher Bell will headline a show on Saturday at the Serenity Tea Bar & Cafe on East Front Street.

Bell performs up to four instruments a show, including cello, banjo and viola. His music is a mix of classical and folk.

The show will start at 9:30 p.m., with Bell taking the stage at 10:30 p.m. Also performing are Nellie Eve, Michael Anne Erlewine, North Country String Band, Small Houses, Red Cedar String Band and Jack Fivecoate.

Stone Circle season is winding down

ELK RAPIDS -- Stone Circle will run both Saturday and Sunday this weekend and will end its 2009 season on Sept. 12.

The family-friendly gatherings are hosted by poet/bard Terry Wooten and start at 9 p.m. A donation of $4 for adults and $2 for children ages 12 and younger will be collected.

InsideOut Gallery hosts concerts

TRAVERSE CITY -- Folk musician Garnet Rogers will be joined by Andre Villoch Sept. 12 and Will Kimbrough will appear on Sept. 14 at InsideOut Gallery.

Rogers has established himself as a formidable solo folk artist. His music has been described as literate, passionate, highly sensitive and purposeful.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at the gallery, 229 Garland St. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

Kimbrough's guitar playing has made him a sought-after sideman, playing for Jimmy Buffett and others.

Kimbrough will perform at 8 p.m. The doors open at 6 p.m. Adult tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Student tickets are $10.

Chain O Lakes fest is this weekend

BELLAIRE -- The Chain O Lakes Music Fest is this weekend in Antrim County. Performers include Mue Sephei, Dave Boutette, Code Brown, the FunDubMentals, Jetty Rae and Jess and Dan.

Performances will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Short's Brewing Co., 121 N. Bridge St. All shows are $5 each. For details, call 533-6622 or visit www.shortsbrewing.com.

Musicians also will perform from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and the festival will close with an open jam starting at 11 a.m. Sunday at Chain O Lakes Campground, 7231 S. M-88, south of Bellaire. For admission and camping details, call the campground, 533-8432.

'Capitalism' tickets are now available

BELLAIRE -- Tickets are now on sale for the U.S. premiere of Michael Moore's documentary, "Capitalism: A Love Story."

There will be two screenings Sept. 19 in Bellaire, each preceded or followed by a party. There's a brunch party at Lulu's Bistro from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and a screening of the movie at 1 p.m. There's another party at Lulu's scheduled for 2:30-4 p.m. and another screening at 4:30 p.m.

Tickets to a party and a screening are $50. Tickets for a 6 to 8 p.m. afterglow at Short's Brewing in Bellaire are $25.

The movie is a fundraiser for the Antrim County Democrats. Ticket are available at www.treatickets.com.

Book in the works on OTP's 50 years

TRAVERSE CITY -- Memories are being sought for a book celebrating 50 years of the Old Town Playhouse.

Author and publisher Kristen Hains says the book, slated for release in February, will be a celebration of the ways the playhouse has been a part of the region.

She's currently scheduling interviews with people willing to share stories.

In particular, Hains is interested in hearing from family members of those who may have been involved in the early days of the theater, but are now deceased.
