Aug. 20--LIMA -- Audiences at the Allen County Fair this year have the chance to be entertained by tractor pulls Saturday night.
The Hardin County Tractor Pullers will be putting on a show starting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 featuring stock pickup trucks, stock 4 X 4 trucks, stock diesel trucks, semitrailers and tractors.
Phil Lowe, president of Hardin County Tractor Pullers, said this is the first year he'll be at the Allen County Fair but has put on tractor pulls for the past five years at the Hardin County Fair.
There will be cash prizes for winners in each category.
Lowe said popularity has grown over the past five years for tractor pulls.
"People are hungry for tractor pulls, and I expect around 1,500 to 1,800 people. I'm hoping to have a good time," Lowe said. "Fans want to come out and see what the local boys can do."
Lowe said around 70 to 80 men and women will compete in the tractor pulls.
"People like to see what they can do and guys like to go up against their buddy to see which one has the stronger truck," Lowe said.
People interested in competing in the pulls can show up and register the day of. Lowe said there will be an entry booth on the east side of the grandstand. The cost is around $25.
To enter you must bring proof of insurance and registration that matches the vehicle. Vehicles need to be to street legal.
