Aug. 7--Claremore will celebrate Oklahoma's Sales Tax Day with additional special offers and discounts.
Just in time for school, the third annual, Oklahoma Sales Tax Holiday will officially begin shortly after midnight Friday and will run through midnight on Sunday.
The holiday allows shoppers the opportunity to purchase clothing and shoes free of sales tax.
"Oklahoma does this to help families who have children who are going back to school," said Dell Davis, Pres. CEO Claremore Chamber of Commerce. "For Claremore, we want to keep our dollars circulating in our community so it's the perfect time, perfect opportunity to purchase back-to-school clothing from local retailers."
Retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt during the sales tax holiday.
Clothing and shoes priced at less than $100 may be purchased this weekend free of taxes.
Tax exempt items include any article of clothing or footwear designed to be worn on or about the human body if they are priced under $100.
Taxes will be paid on accessories such as purses or jewelry.
Also taxed will be special clothing or footwear primarily designed for athletic activity. Items designed for protective use that is not normally worn except when used for athletic activity or protective use will also be taxed.
Rental clothing or footwear will still be taxed.
Downtown Claremore Chamber Members including A Gallery of the Arts, A Place of Grace, Ann & Barbara's Interiors, My Doll Castle, Outwest Home Decor and Waterfront Frame & Art are among vendors offering various special discounts as they celebrate "Same as Tax Free." These discounts are in effect one day only, Saturday Aug. 8.
