Antioxidant Consumption in India Positioned to Grow at 7-9% by 2013 [07/30/2009 ]

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rubber-processing, plastics, fuels and lubricants, and food and feed industries are major consumers of antioxidants. Industrial antioxidants are part of a broader portfolio of additive products developed by companies to serve specific end-use industries. Today SRI Consulting (SRIC) published its 2009 Antioxidants report, a comprehensive study focusing on the business environment and market dynamics for this specialty chemical segment.

Lead author and senior consultant Fred Hajduk commented, "Although India is positioned to grow 7-9% by 2013, it will still be a relatively small market, consuming approximately 44 thousand metric tons. China's growth during this same period of time will go from 187.2 to 247 thousand metric tons, growing by 5-7%."

Antioxidant producers have been facing a significant shift of their customer base to the Asia Pacific region, particularly to China. At the same time, market competition from China and India is growing rapidly. To serve the growing global customer base, major antioxidant producers have been forming partnerships with local companies to expand local production bases. At the present time, the Asia Pacific region reportedly accounts for over 50% of the global production of antioxidants.

The principal chemical classes of antioxidants covered in the report are amines, hindered phenols, phosphites, thioesters and various natural or 'natural-based' compounds. The Antioxidants report includes regional status and outlook for North America, Western Europe, Japan, India and China, with a review of the year 2008 and estimates for 2013. The report provides an analysis of events that is critically important in developing a strategy for success in this rapidly changing specialty chemicals segment.
