Augusta Chronicle, The (GA) via NewsEdge :

Apr. 1--One of the vacant stores on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway will be filled by a baby merchandise retailer.

Buybuy Baby's first Georgia location will be in Augusta, opening in late July, corporate spokeswoman Catherine Gentile said.

Buybuy Baby sells clothing, strollers, car seats, furniture, toys and developmental products for infants and toddlers.

According to city records, a commercial building permit has been granted to renovate the store at 242 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway. The location has been vacant since early 2008, when CompUSA closed.

Renovating the 27,000-square-foot location should take three months.

Ms. Gentile would not say how many people the store will employ. It is advertising on its corporate Web site for applications for a store manager.

Buybuy Baby was founded in 1996 and acquired in 2007 by Bed Bath & Beyond, which is expanding the chain. It has 16 stores in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, Michigan, Florida, Ohio and Indiana.
